About: As a graduate of California’s public schools (Kindergarten through architecture school at the University of California, Berkeley), Mary sees her long career in public school architecture as a way of paying forward to others the opportunities others provided her. After having spent many years working on educational projects for large firms, Mary has recently begun consulting to help her education—and architect—clients achieve greater levels of satisfaction and success with their completed facilities projects by getting those projects set up on the right foot with services focused on laying the groundwork needed to define, budget, schedule, and deliver education projects successfully. They include education specifications, facilities assessments, site committee and public meeting planning and facilitation, master and implementation plans, and serving as an owner’s architect representative in Design-Build projects as well as communication planning, content generation and editing, awards submissions, reviewing and commenting on RFPs, and RFP response preparation. Mary’s volunteer time is dedicated to pursuing social and racial justice. In addition to her participation in the WIA, she has served: • For more than 25 years as a board member of the YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley, whose mission is Eliminating Racism & Empowering Women and Girls and Their Families • For more than 15 years as a member of the Downtown College Prep College Scholarship Committee, whose mission is to help first-generation college students thrive in college • For more than ten years as a board member of Architecture for Learning Environments’ Northern California / Nevada chapter, whose mission is to drive the evolution of learning environments by working at the intersection of learning and place. Mary is in the second year of her second two-year term on our local AIA chapter’s board, serving currently as Board Secretary, chair of the Scholarship Committee, and WIA Liaison.
