Jeremy Freeman, AIA | Freeman Design Group

Jeremy’s interest in architecture started, as you might expect, playing with LEGO bricks when he was young. As his interest in drawing, sketching, and painting grew, he kept laser-focused on what he wanted to do through his education.

Jeremy has worked primarily in residential throughout his career. First, working in multifamily in D.C. for several years, then transitioned to custom single-family residential when working in Cincinnati. At this time, Jeremy fell in love with the unique aspect of every project and every client in the custom residential field. Getting to know the clients and how to craft a perfect house that fits the clients and their specific needs is a personal joy for Jeremy. With the vast amount of housing needed in California, his desire has expanded beyond just single-family homes and is getting back into the various options of multi-family in the Bay Area. Outside of work, Jeremy enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids.

Jeremy holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Texas, Arlington.

Affiliations: American Institute of Architects, National Council of Architectural Registration Board.

Carle Hesse | Square Three Architecture Inc.

Carl Hesse first learned about the profession of architecture during a research project in 6th grade social studies class and knew from that experience that he would be an architect and design homes. Carl grew up on the East Coast and his family moved to the Bay Area in the late 70’s. He attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo as an architecture major during the mid 80’s – the first step or “square” in architecture. His time at Cal Poly included an influential study abroad year in Copenhagen, Denmark. During the summers back home, Carl interned at commercial firms. Here he was fortunate to work on a variety of project types including large office campuses, retail centers, restaurants, design competitions, and everything in between. Upon graduating from Cal Poly, Carl continued to work through his apprenticeship years in the commercial sector with some opportunities in residential architecture.

Anxious to set out on his own, Carl founded square three architecture in 1990 in Palo Alto and has been rooted there since. He was excited to apply the modern design influences that he was enlightened by while at Cal Poly, studying in Denmark and traveling through Western Europe to residential design. square three has grown from a one-person office to a staff that hovers around eight architects and design staff. Carl’s business partner, Tom Carrubba who originally started as an employee in the mid 90’s, eventually became Carl’s partner as they appreciated how well they worked together. As principals of the firm, Carl and Tom co-manage an average of 25 active projects and oversee all aspects of the office, along with fostering the professional growth of their skilled staff.
