2026 Spring Lecture Series – Architecture + Landscape + Urban Design

Theme: UNCERTAINTY

The University Architect / Campus Planning and Design Office sponsors a spring lecture series in architecture and landscape architecture. The purpose of the series is to bring together community enthusiasts, students and staff from across different disciplines to hear the latest innovations in building and design. The lectures provide the Bay Area architectural and design communities an opportunity to hear nationally and internationally renowned experts in the field. The lectures are free of charge and open to the public.

Each lecture is valid for one hour of CEU Credit through AIA Silicon Valley.  Please add your name to the list at the door we will submit the list to the AIA following each lecture to insure you receive credit.

UNCERTAINTY lies at the heart of architecture, shaping every decision from the first conceptual sketch to the life a building takes on long after completion.  Designers must work within a set of constraints that are constantly in flux: economic pressures, evolving technologies, climate realities, political forces, and the unpredictable ways people inhabit space.  UNCERTAINTY becomes a generative condition: inviting experimentation, adaptability, and humility in design. This lecture series explores how architects confront, absorb, design for the unknown.  We will examine projects and processes that embrace change, risk, and ambiguity as essential drivers of resilient, meaningful, and forward-looking architecture.

Location: ChEM-H / Neuro research complex (John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn Rotunda Level 2, Room E241)
