Small towns have their square and dense cities have their central plazas, but suburban communities rarely provide that sort of public social space. This project explores the concept of suburban civic space by creating a flexible, multi-purpose outdoor courtyard in the form of a spacious, covered front porch. This space mediates between the six-lane street and parking lot and the more intimate and pedestrian-scaled library and community center.
