Several years ago the authors of this study undertook an examination of the possibilities and limitations of high-speed rail in Palo Alto. That former study looked carefully at the costs of undergrounding the train. This study, starting from that point, is intended to spark a dialogue with the community about the possibilities of a dynamic and community-oriented 4-mile long linear park. The proposal, developed as community service in our spare time, is not intended as a definitive plan but rather a set of ideas about what could happen –and how a research and evidence based approach might help.
