Executive Director

AIA Santa Clara Valley Chapter

As I write this update to my members, I find myself overwhelmed with optimism as we start to wrap up our first quarter of 2016.  I first want to acknowledge what a wonderfully engaged and passionate board of directors I have been working with thus far.   I also am pleased to announce that our total number of members has increased in 2015 and is the most our chapter has had since the early ‘90s.

Membership in your local association serves as a key resource in developing your career as an architect.  If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to read our recent post from our member and active volunteer, Stephanie Silkwood, AIA who is the recent recipient of the AIA 2016 Young Architects Award.  Stephanie discusses how to emerge as a champion for your profession.  Click here to read the article in full.

Wise companies invest in their industry and professional associations for three major reasons:  networking for new business, educating their staff and protecting their company from unwise government actions.  More recently, associations have served as an extension of your human resources department.  Connecting firms with qualified candidates to fill vital roles within their practice.

Individuals invest in their association for professional development opportunities and networking.  Would you rather… learn about the latest in HVAC systems through an outdated textbook or someone who currently oversees a project at new tech campus? Learn best practices at some of the many chapter programs from featured industry leaders.

As with anything though, you get out of it what you put in to it.  We have some great programs coming up and always check our calendar to see what events might appeal to you. AIA Santa Clara Valley is committed to providing the tools you need to be successful.

If you have an interest in volunteering or participating more, send me an email at and let’s talk about what your interests are and how you can become more involved.

Hope to see you at a future AIASCV event soon!

We had a great time at our March Chapter Meeting.  A mighty THANK YOU to the Women in Architecture Committee for organizing the event, "Designing Success For Women".
