2019 California Residential Code Updates

This 6 hour course examines and provides an overview of the significant changes between the 2016 California Residential Code and the 2019 California Residential Code (CRC). An in-depth examination of each code item changed or new addition will be presented to the attendees of this session. The session will also introduce the completely new sections added to the CRC including, but not limited to, Building Integrated PV Panels, Tiny Homes, Light-Straw-Clay Construction, and Strawbale Construction. At the conclusion of the course, attendees will understand the differences to the new and revised code items and how to implement them into their professional residential practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion of this session, attendees will have the tools necessary to apply the learned changes and code additions of the 2019 CRC to their real world residential projects.
  • At the conclusion of the session participants will have a greater understanding of the new prescriptive design criteria introduced in the 2019 CRC and will be able to implement in their daily residential practice.
  • Upon completion participants will be able to implement improved Fire and Life Safety requirements of the 2019 CRC that differ from the fire and life safety requirements of the 2016 CRC.  
  • Through attendance of this session, participants will understand the enforcement issues in the 2019 CRC that differ from the 2016 CRC and will be able to access their projects to comply with minimum requirements.
