- Luisa Caldas, Professor of Architecture and director of the Virtual and Augmented Reality Laboratory at UC Berkeley presents how education is preparing students in architecture, specifically in new technology in practice and pedagogy, to anticipate the unknown future of our practice.

||Luisa Caldas is Professor in the Department of Architecture and director of the XR Lab, the virtual and augmented reality laboratory at UC Berkeley. Her approach to VR/AR congregates advanced visualization, design and simulation in immersive environments, parametric and generative design, and storytelling. The XR Lab has collaborations with HTC, Oculus, Autodesk, HOK and Lucas Film/Industrial Light and Magic, among others. Caldas is director of the MS/PhD program in Building Science, Technology and Sustainability, and a faculty scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Before founding the XR Lab she was a principal at her consultancy company in sustainability and green building. Caldas is a pioneer in the field of generative design applied to low-energy buildings and is the author of several software in that domain. A licensed architect, she received a MSc from the Bartlett Graduate School, UCL and a PhD in Architecture and Building Technology from MIT.
